[edit] Publications based on Peace Corps Experience

My new chapbook of poems, "Timer," includes several poems that resulted from my Peace Corps experience in Thailand. These include "Aplomb" and "The Moon over Hua Hin." The book is available online at Amazon, Borders, Barnes and Noble, etc. Here, in its entirety, is "Aplomb":

Aplomb (Peace Corps Thailand)

In classrooms where the windows have no glass / And the air moves through on moans and roars / Teachers are upraised by motives more ennobling / Than those impelled by paychecks or degrees /

In Thailand it is said / The word for teacher / --khroo / Derives from ancient Sanskrit / --guru / And carries with it much / The same respecting-weight /

A cynosure you stand / Not of a class but of a culture / Whose watchful eyes you drop / Into the pockets of your person / As a nurse might gather / Needles in her smock /

Or a saint might transmute arrows.
