Info about the Chernivsti Listening and Speaking Classroom Project
Deaf people face many challenges in Ukraine where there are not many resources for integrating those with disabilities into mainstream society. The Chernivsti Specialized School for Deaf Children creates a wonderful environment for the 100 children it serves, who range in age from 6-17, and tries to provide them with the skills they need to thrive once they graduate. However, many graduates of the school have difficulty finding work, communicating with their families and even finding their place in society. Those who have the most success are those who can best interact with the "hearing world", those who possess the best speaking skills. The proposed Listening and Speaking Classroom project will raise each student's ability to speak through the use of modern sound enforcing apparatus and the enhanced learning environment this new classroom will create. The community will completely renovate one of the classrooms in the school, and will provide a new library and visual aides among the many improvements to the classroom. Partnership funds are needed to purchase the new sound enforcing apparatus.
