Cuenca is the provincial capital of the sierran province of Azuay in Ecuador. It is sometimes referred to as "La Ciudad Más Culta de Ecuador" (the most cultured city of Ecuador). The fiestas de Cuenca coincide with Halloween (which is not celebrated in Ecuador) and el Día de los Difuntos (Day of the Deceased, commonly known in other Latino countries as Day of the Dead).
