J. Henry (Hank) Ambrose is Vice President, State Public Policy for Verizon Maryland and Washington, DC where he is responsible for public policy advocacy before the Maryland and District of Columbia Public Service Commissions. After attending Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, Hank joined the Peace Corps/College Degree Program at the State University of New York, Brockport as part of Grupo Tres. He was part of an Education Group that completed a college degree and peace corps training. The program was designed to train teachers in mathematics and the sciences who would be assigned to Latin America. After completion of the program and earning a B.S. in mathematics, Hank was offered an opportunity to train and serve in Kenya as part of a mathematics and science program. He completed in-country training from November through December 1970 and began service in January 1971. Hank taught mathematics at Kenyatta College (now Kenyatta University), just outside Nairobi, to students who would become secondary school teachers. He completed two and a half years of service in June 1973. Following his Peace Corps service, Hank completed an M.S. in Matematics (Statistics) at the University of Cincinnati and was hired by AT&T.
