Joshua Berman (born 1973 in West Virginia) is an award-winning author and travel writer. He has spent much of the last 10 years volunteering and traveling throughout Central America, particularly Nicaragua.

Joshua met his future co-author, Randy Wood [1], while both were Peace Corps Volunteers in Nicaragua. After completing their two-year tours of service, the two returned to write Moon Nicaragua for Avalon Travel Publishing. Berman and Wood have proceeded to publish two more editions of Moon Nicaragua, as well as co-author a new title, Living Abroad in Nicaragua. In 2003, Berman took over Moon Belize from a retiring author and won a Lowell Thomas Travel Writing Award (Bronze in the Best Guidebook category) for his work.

Born in West Virginia, Joshua moved to East Meadow, New York at the age of 12. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from Brown University. He has one sibling, a brother, Todd Berman. Joshua is married, and currently living in Colorado with his wife, Sutay, also a former Peace Corps Volunteer. They have traveled and volunteered in several different capacities since their wedding in 2004.

Though Berman specializes in Central America tourism and environmental issues (especially Nicaragua and Belize), he recently expanded his horizons, completing a 16-month "voluntourism" trip around the world, documented on The Tranquilo Traveler: Not Your Typical Round-the-World Honeymoon [2].
