Tabou was an interesting site as it was on the border of Liberia and was host to many Liberian refugees at the time. It was as if I experienced Peace Corps Cote d'Ivoire and Peace Corps Liberia at the same time. It is a beautiful town, right on the ocean. Another volunteer down the road in Sassandra (another beach site) called our two assignments "Corps de la Plage." Nothing more picturesque than the crashing waves, Fanti fishermen, a lighthouse, and someone going to the bathroom on the sand! I worked with the Marie and the Centre Social on sanitation issues like gray water and garbage management, hygiene education, and even did some kindergarten teacher trainings for the refugee school.
