From Macedonia PCV Julie Gezon:
Situated in the eastern part of Macedonia, is a small town that is home to approximately 12,000 inhabitants. Being a small town, it provides very limited entertainment options for its youth. Area students often resort to cramming into smoky cafes or walking the streets with their friends in the evenings.
Through the Peace Corps Partnership Program (PCPP), we were able to expand these evening entertainment options for area youth by building a mini-movie theater. The local student council partnered with the area youth organization, worked to prepare and organize the logistics of the theater. Currently, the mini-theater offers four projections weekly for various ages. In order to ensure its success and continuation in the future, the mini-theater collects a small and affordable entrance fee from each viewer to cover all reoccurring and small maintenance costs. The town's youth are very excited and thankful for this new activity. Through the help of PCPP, they are now able to relax and enjoy the company of their friends in a safe and monitored setting.
