About Paula Hirschoff

  • Twice served as a Volunteer, Kenya (1968-70; Education) and with Chuck in Senegal (Small Enterprise Development).
  • Active in Friends of Kenya and a Docent at the African Art Museum.
  • Served as English professor; researcher and consultant-advocate for a community based natural resource management NGO, freelance writer and editor, communications director, reporter, and legislative and press aide on Capitol Hill.
  • Macalester College (BA 1966); George Washington University (MA in Anthropology, 1996).


Chuck Ludlam and Paula Hirschoff

  • While serving in Senegal, invited by Senator Chris Dodd to testify on behalf of the 8,000 current Volunteers before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee regarding the Dodd/Kennedy Peace Corps Volunteer Empowerment Act, S. 732 (PCVEA). Flew to Washington at their own expense to testify in support of the legislation.
  • Their article “A Call for Peace Corps Reform” appears in the fall 2008 issue of WorldView, the magazine of the National Peace Corps Association.
