Uthai Thani
TCCO
I rocked out in a riverside town, Uthai Thani, which is 4 hours North of Bangkok. 4 days a week I was in 2 elementary schools, Wat Thammasopit and Wat Amaritawari, helping teachers implement student centered learning. My focus was on training the teachers, rather than teaching the students, in an effort to increase sustainability. In addition I (with the town health clinic) planned 5 AIDS education workshops for adults in the town; all had a focus on empowering women to confidently make decisions regarding their health and rights. The ultimate workshop trained village health volunteers on how to repeat these clinics in their villages. In addition I worked with the town hospital to create a providence wide blood drive to not only replenish the low supply of blood, but address the concern that locals would not get tested for HIV/AIDS. Finally, I was an active member of the Gender and Development GIG leadership team, helping plan the yearly conference. While in Thailand I helped in group 118 training, located in my town, and ran the 2006 Thailand Temple Run Marathon.
