In a rural community located nine kilometers from a paved roadway in the northern part of Paraguay, every house is not outfitted with running water or electricity. Parasite problems, respiratory infections, and general health problems correlated to a lack of sanitation in the kitchen and bathroom have created many obstacles in the lives of the population.

Through the work of Peace Corps in the past four years, there have been great strides made in the overall well-being and health of community members. Fogones, or clay ovens with an area for cooking with pots, have been constructed on a large scale and composting latrines have been made, that if cared for properly, can last a life time. These projects have made incredible improvements in day to day living. The community would like to carry on the great work that has been done by continuing to build fogones, latrines, and sinks. The aim is to complete ten more fogones, 16 composting latrines, and 16 sinks.

The community contribution to this project will be designated in the form of fifteen percent of the cost of materials, the transport costs of the materials, and the manual labor needed to complete the construction of the projects.
