Kelly was a TEFL volunteer in Saranda from 1995 to 1997. He taught high school English at the school near his apartment. In summer he hosted hordes of PC Albania visitors who wanted to take in the view of Corfu from his balcony and enjoy the company of his cats, Theodora and Charva. His steady diet of fasule and thierza made it hard to accompany him in the apartment for more than a couple of hours at a time. In addition to many visitors, he often received Cleveland Steamers. In addition, Kelly enjoyed deep diving for dirty diapers in the brackish Saranda waters.
