separate the standard welcome book

This looks great, thanks, we should try and come up with some way to separate the standard welcome book content from user contributed content. Many invitees like myself have likely already read it or at least browsed. It is probably better than nothing but I bet people will be reticent to make edits. Thadk 08:28, 20 July 2007 (PDT)

Tom Coyner (K-35) maintains a web page, RPCVs-Korea Media, that tracks all known email addresses of Peace Corps Volunteers who served in Korea plus a email of a some of the Peace Corps Korea staff. There is also a limited number of updated photos and hot links. This is part of a very large, personal web site that includes extensive information on past and current Korea and Japan at

Logo Nazi's

I never have figured out why Peace Corps are such Nazi's about their logo. You would think the more people that use the logo, the more people would see Peace Corps and possibly become interested.

Nice site. I found this site in my Google e-mail as an advertisement. Google e-mail "reads" your message and makes tailor made suggestions for the you. I served in the Peace Corps in Odessa Ukraine 2000-2002. Odessaukrain 11:07, 16 December 2007 (PST)

spammer solution and problem

If you are having problems with spammers, you can set up a simple program which forces anons to complete a math problem. LOL--never mind, I see you have it installed:

To edit this article, please solve the simple sum below and enter the answer in the box (more info):
46 + 7 =

One problem though, every single edit I make asks me a subtraction problem. You can set it so that once the person answers one math problem, they will never have to answer another problem again. Odessaukrain 11:07, 16 December 2007 (PST)

The math problem was installed to deter spammers, which , effectively, it did - however, as you pointed out, it can also detract valid edits. We've relaxed the math confirmation. No more every single edit. Currently it is set up to ask if 1. New account, or 2. If edit contains outside links. We'll see if that works. Thanks for the suggestion. Man, I feel your pain looking over the edit history, I have fought so hard to kill spam on my two wikis. Odessaukrain 07:18, 26 January 2008 (PST)

Need pics

this site is devoid of any pics, which makes it dull.

I noticed you disabled photos Mike. That is a real shame. Odessaukrain 11:17, 16 December 2007 (PST)

Images are now enabled. Welcome to add. First test image was in the Odessa article. Working on adding templates. (Mike 06:06, 18 December 2007 (PST))
I am really impressed that you are so open to suggestions. Lets try another one. Odessaukrain 07:14, 26 January 2008 (PST)
A wiki isn't a wiki without being open to changes. The more suggestions we have from fellow (R)PCVs to improve PeaceCorpsWiki, the more useful it'll be for the general Peace Corps community Mike 13:32, 26 January 2008 (PST)

Protected Main Site

RE: "Odessaukrain (WP:BB moved disclaimer to bottom. I am shocked you havent protected your main page yet--it is a favorite with vandals)"

The main page was protected from 9/26/07 to 11/20/07. It was first protected to avoid spammers, then we added the math test (subject to change). That stopped 99% of all spams, and so the protection was removed. Valid edits and additions have been made to the main site. The middle column of 'Current Volunteers' was added by a user.(Mike 06:12, 18 December 2007 (PST))

Main page was protected again on 1/23/08. This was to comply with a request by Peace Corps Headquarters as the disclaimer can not be moved or deleted and should remain prominent. We still welcome suggestions for edits on the page, but (for now) only the sysops/admins can make the edits on the main page. Mike 13:36, 26 January 2008 (PST)

Make peace, not war!

Added a message button

I cut and paste the above yellow message button from my site

You can change the color or remove it if you like.

I figured thsi will help wiki newbies who have never used a wiki before. I want to add a message bar like this on my main page, but haven't found a design I like.Odessaukrain 07:21, 26 January 2008 (PST)

Looks good! Mike 13:37, 26 January 2008 (PST)

What to add to Odessa page

What should I add to the Odessa page?

I was thinking that some of the information at can be added to the general ukraine page, but I don't really have anything to add to the Odessa page. :( Odessaukrain 07:39, 26 January 2008 (PST)

The Culture and Etiquette information would be a nice addition to the Ukraine page. You are welcome to add it there, or as a new page link from the Ukraine page. For either page anything that would help future volunteers understand the culture and/or city would be a nice addition. (Taking a look at the 'Superstitions and etiquette' on your page, I realized we had a few that were the same for The Gambia) Mike 13:45, 26 January 2008 (PST)

Location of R-PCV

Hello, I was in Honduras from 1966-1969 in the Central American University program.

A fellow returned volunteer and I are trying to set-up a reunion from our group but are running into a stone wall---aka "The Patriot Act"----in trying to locate volunteers from this era.

Any help---or leads in how to do this?
