Info about the Environmental Community Clean Up

The proposed project will address environmental issues in a city in the Kyrgyz Republic. There is an abundance of litter in the streets, fields, and beaches, and a growing community need and want for the litter to decrease. The goals of the project are to reduce the amount of litter in the community and to address the current attitudes of the community about environmental issues though education and awareness. The objectives of the project are as follows:

1. Organize 100 youth volunteers for 2 community clean-ups. 2. Create a highly visible mural about environmental awareness. 3. Train 20 youth volunteers to educate peers and community members about environmental issues. 4. Make and post signs at the lake shores about keeping the environment clean.

The project will be community-led using many volunteers, mainly youth. This will give them a sense of pride and ownership over the work they are doing, therefore contributing to the success and sustainability of the project.

Funds from the Partnership program will be used to pay for materials needed to complete all four objectives. In addition, funds will be used to make environmentally themed t-shirts for volunteers, which will be designed specifically for this project.

The community contribution of the project will be through labor, professional consultation, a donated wall for the mural from the mayor’s office, a biosphere trainer, and some donated materials. As stated above, there will be many volunteers to work the community clean-up, make and paint signs, paint the mural, and youth volunteer trainers.
