I served in Malawi from July 1987 until October 1990. I taught English and Biology at Robert Blake Secondary School in Dowa for one year. I then transfered to MVERA MCDE where I taught English and Biology for one year. I then extended for a third year where I worked as a Child Survival Officer for the Ministry of Health at the Central Regional Office in Lilongwe. Throughout my service I also worked on a variety of trainings for new volunteers and inservices.

May/2010 I just returned from 5 weeks in Malawi. I was doing a project with Kamuzu College of Nursing--In Lilongwe and Blantyre. The project involved doing a Needs Assessment to determine if they should begin a Masters Degree in Community Health Nursing. Great Project! While in Malawi, I visited Robert Blake Secondary School and The Regional Health Office. Robert Blake was in need of some serious repairs and TLC. The good news is that the entire staff in Malawian and they still have a very high pass rate on the National exams. The Regional Health Office is now a Zonal office, but looks just the same.

The little store "Kay Bees" on the corner above the river in Lilongwe still has the same awesome samosas.

Very strange seeing Coffin Shops EVERYWHERE! HIV/AIDS is the #1 cause of death in Malawi.
