I worked with the Pastoral Social office of the Curia Diocesana de Azogues in a position somewhat similar to that of an agribusiness extension agent. I was based in an office in the provincial capital, but the majority of my work occurred outside of the city. I carried out small business trainings with members of rural community groups that had received small production loans from the office I worked with. The trainings included topics such as basic bookkeeping, basic marketing, and cost analysis. I did some of the training in more formal workshop settings and some were done on an individual basis with some of the larger, more organized and advanced groups. I made follow-up/troublshooting visits on a regular basis with the larger groups and per request with the smaller groups. I also worked with a women's group to export wool sweaters. Unfortunately --at least as far as I know-- this was a one-time thing. With my fellow Agribusiness PCVs, we put together a basic small business manual for non-business PCVs. On a more personal note, I met and married my wife while I served as a Volunteer. Following my COS, I stayed in Ecuador on contract with Peace Corps as Technical Trainer for the incoming Agribusiness Trainees.
