Info about the Trekking Tour

With the support of the Municipal Assemblies and collaboration with the Tourism Management Teams, this project aims to introduce and develop village-to-village guide services linking several neighboring tourism sites. The project will focus on five villages located in the lush mountainous Volta region of Ghana. These five villages are currently involved in tourism and have expressed a desire to cross-market and work together to attract a larger number of tourists. The villages, however, have lacked the ability to do so as of yet.

Tourists often inquire about hiking tours at the local Tourism office, and through Peace Corps volunteers in the area. Despite the demand, there are no formal hiking circuits or village-to-village guide services within the geographic area. One of the underlying goals of community-based tourism is to promote grassroots, community-initiated development. Therefore, the Trekking Tour is focused on developing tourist attractions at the community level.
