Info about the Uganda School Improvement and HIV/AIDS Educational Murals

This project has two main goals: first, uplift a Primary School infrastructure to ensure long-term use of the school building and second, convey important messages to the current and future pupils about HIV/AIDS. The goal of the compound messages and HIV/AIDS murals on the buildings is to help teach important life skills and personal discipline to the pupils so that they will make smart choices and reduce their risk of HIV infection. Additionally, the teachers will receive important training to enhance the understanding of these messages. Community members will learn critical HIV/AIDS messages that will empower them to make safe and smart choices at home. They will also have the knowledge that teachers will have gained, so pupils can receive the same messages both at home and in school.

Financial resources to allow for the implementation of the painting and building improvements are needed. Due to the fact that the school is a Universal Primary Education (UPE) School, funds for maintenance of the building are very scarce. Without the assistance of donors, the school will continue to further deteriorate until other private funds become available.

The school is neighbor to a Primary Teacher’s Coordinating Center, which means that teachers and teachers-in-training visit the center on a regular basis. Current and future teachers will be exposed to the messages and images that this school communicates to its students and community.
