Info about the Ukraine Community Action Network

PCV Kristina Jeffers and the Ukrainian Community Action Network, a year-round program devoted to civics education and development of leadership skills for Ukranian students and young professionals, are seeking Partnership support to host a series of retreats and workshops. The lynchpin of the project is a two-week summer leadership retreat called Camp Rah Rah. Participants in the summer retreat are immersed in teamwork training, leadership education and the precepts of civic responsibility. At the retreat, participants develop a plan of action to address a problem in their community. Upon completion of the retreat, participants can become part of DO IT (Development of Ideas Together), an alumni organization which offers support in project development and planning, as well as keeping alumni up to date on recent organizational developments. In the next year, the project aims to directly impact 200 new participants from all over Ukraine and to provide support mechanisms for roughly 115 active alumni. The UCAN project and the summer retreat aspect in particular are in need of Partnership assistance to fund the project for the 2002-2003 cycle. While the project has obtained a sizable comunity contribution, corporate funding and in-kind donations, a project of this magnitude cannot be funded entirely through domestic means.
