As a running aficionado who volunteered at the 1984 Olympic Women s Marathon Trials in Olympia, Jerry Miller understands the importance of keeping that history alive. He does it by educating the runners on  his Capital High School cross country and track and field squads. They need to have that sense of history, Miller said. This is a big deal for me. That s why Miller,  the Lakefair Run organizer, spearheaded the idea of commemorating the 84 trials which was the first Olympic trials for women marathoners at Saturday s Lakefair Run. All participants of the half-marathon, 8- and 3-kilometer runs will receive  a T-shirt with a specially designed patch on the sleeve. At the finish line will be mile-marker 13.1 from the 84 trails,  which Miller has kept for 30 years.Miller said about 1,200 participants, including nearly 350 for the half-marathon, are expected to run at Saturday s races, which are 7 a.m. (half-marathon), 8 a.m. (8K), and 8:05 a.m. (3K). The start  and finish line is at Heritage Park and day-of registration is available.Saturday also is the start of the annual Lakefair Volleyball tournament, a mixed-doubles tournament held on the lawns around the State Capitol Dome. Matches begin at 9:15 a.m.
